Pravas Case study

Self project

(mobile app, iOS, prototyping, solo project)

The ultimate travel guide to help tourists as well as locals reach their desired destination with as little roadblocks as possible (pun intended)

What tools did I use?

Figma, Miro, Icounscout

What?

What exactly is the problem?

There is no app that integrates all modes of transportation into one

People have varying budget and time constraints and often lack guidance on the best travel options for their needs. This makes traveling a hassle for locals, and even more so for tourists. Many end up booking services like Uber or Ola, which raises prices for everyone, increases traffic and pollution, and causes delays.

Problem statement

How can I design a seamless app experience that can help travellers (age 14+) obtain the necessary information they need to navigate the city of Mumbai.

Who?

Whose problem are we solving?

Commuters

Tourist confusion

Why does it matter?

With a multitude of transportation options available, tourists find themselves overwhelmed and bewildered, lacking a centralised resource to guide them through the city's diverse transit offerings.

Local Discomfort

Even for seasoned residents, navigating Mumbai's crowded streets and public transport networks can be arduous and time-consuming, leading to increased frustration and inefficiency in daily commutes.

Traffic Congestion

The lack of comprehensive transportation guidance exacerbates the city's notorious traffic congestion, resulting in prolonged travel times, heightened pollution levels, and decreased overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

How?..

01

Contextual inquiry

Research methods

What methods of UX research did I use to understand the problem better and find a solution?

I investigated what the people in Mumbai thought about their travel routines

I interviewed mumbaikars on different transportations and asked them questions about their routine and overall experience.

My goal was to observe them in action, identify their frustrations, and figure out ways to address their problems.

02

Competitor analysis

I wanted to analyse how I could ensure that my product stands out

If there is one thing I know about mumbaikars it’s loyalty so I had to make sure that my design along with saving their problems also offers unique features that other apps lack.

My takeaway from the research

If I create an app that provides personalised recommendations to users for their mode of transportation based on their constraints, it would promote the use of public transport and reduce delays caused due to traffic congestion

How am I going to address the pain points?

Newcomers find it hard to navigate the roads of Mumbai

Many travelers face difficulties navigating the city, especially those who are new or visiting for the first time. I want to create a solution that will simplify city navigation for travelers, particularly newcomers and tourists.

Apps don’t have safety measures

My solution is to create an app that will help its users stay informed about potential safety concerns in certain areas and provide suggestions for safer routes.

People don’t want last minute surprises

I want to integrate comprehensive public transportation information into the app,  and provide real-time updates on any disruptions.

Solution

Pravas is a travel app the guides mumbaikars to their best suited travel route according to their personal preferences, making travel safe, efficient and easy

Every person has different preferences, which is why Pravas offers the best suited route for YOU according to YOUR needs and constraints

Pick your route

Mumbai is a big city, and navigating such a place can be daunting. Using GIS, Pravas can highlight unsafe routes by analyzing crime data.

Safety is a priority

Talk to THE people

Pravas aims to build a community where people help each other save time, save money, and travel safely. Which is why there is a community centre which allows users to provide direct updates on the app about any cancellations, delays, congestion, or accidents

Get rewards

Rewarding users with points for specific actions reinforces those behaviors, motivating users to repeat them. By offering rewards for performing certain functions within the app, I want to promote user engagement and satisfaction.

Secure your transactions

My solution provides users secure payment getaways so they can book tickets through the app without having to struggle and run around searching for

What did I learn?

Through my research of apps that use the reward system I learned how big of an impact rewarding users for specific actions has in promoting engagement and satisfaction.

Impact of Gamification

I gained a deeper appreciation for the complexities of urban mobility in a city as dynamic as Mumbai. It truly is a big city and balancing efficiency and safety requires a of effort!
